Gertrud Sandqvist

Gertrud Sandqvist is currently professor in the theory and history of ideas of visual art at Lund University, Sweden.

From 1995 through 2007 she was also Dean  at Malmö Art Academy, Lund University. As of 2011 she has taken up this position again.

She is board member of the National Foundation for Swedish Culture of the Future since 2003, and chair of Baltic Art Center  2003- 2008. Since 2007 she is chair of the steering committee of KUNO, the network organization of all Nordic Art Academies.

She is  member of the International board of  Maumaus-escola des artes Visuales, Lisbon, and of the curriculum committee of the International Academy of Art Palestine. 

She is one of the founding members of EARN, European Art Research Network.

From 1994-95 she was Dean of the university college of Photography and Film, Gothenburg University, 1992-94 Director, Galleri F 15, Moss, Norway, 1984-88 editor in chief and founder of Siksi-the Nordic Art review at Nordic Art Center, Helsinki.

She was a member of the jury for DAAD Berlin Künstlerprogramm 1998-2002, and of Carnegie Art Award for Nordic Painting 2001-04.

In 2001 she received the Lund University award for eminent pedagogical merits.

In 2011 she co-curated the Gothenburg International Biennial of Contemporary Art as well as the Moderna exhibition at Moderna Musset in 2010.

Professor Sandqvist is  writing extensively on mainly Nordic and European contemporary art. Her latest writing includes catalogue essays on Luc Tuymans and Cecilia Edefalk. She is also a co-curator of the Moderna Utställningen, a broad survey over contemporary art in Sweden, at Moderna Museet in Stockholm, opening October this year.
