5th International Conference of Doctoral Studies in Theatre Schools

Brno, Czech Republic, 2-3 December 2011
hosted by Janacek Academy of Music and Performing Arts

The Janacek Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Brno invites paper proposals for the 5th International Conference of Doctoral Studies of Theatre Schools, 2-3 December 2011. The conference is intended for Ph.D. researchers who will present results of their research. The conference takes place under the auspices of SHARE & ELIA

The aim of the conference is to continue mapping the doctoral research undertaken at theatre schools and academies. The conference is a platform for contrasting different concepts of post-graduate study and doctoral research in the field of theatre practice.

The Conference of Doctoral Studies in Theatre Schools is a biannual event; previous editions have been in 2003, 2005, 2007, and 2009.
The aim of the conference is to continue mapping the doctoral research undertaken at theatre schools and academies. The conference is a platform for contrasting different concepts of post-graduate study and doctoral research in the field of theatre practice.

We expect one student and one teacher (ideally the student's tutor) from each school to take part in the conference. The costs related with accommodation will be covered by Janacek Academy of Music and Performing Arts. This is valid for every active participant. Other participants should pay all costs related with their stay in Brno.

Deadline for applications and paper proposals is 31 August 2011; concrete works should be sent in electronic form by 15 October 2011.
Papers will be circulated among participants by email in advance (see also Conditions for Accepting Manuscripts), so that everyone can be acquainted with presented topics.  All materials should be sent to kaderkova [at] jamu.cz
Every participant will have a 30-minutes presentation, followed by 20 minutes open discussion.

Please note that all participants should send their papers to the organisers in advance. The paper can be more extensive, it can include more detailed descriptions of the research and present different extensive information (statistics or other data), while the presentation can concentrate on more general aspects - especially methodology of the research.
Because we see doctoral studies and research in the field of theatre practice as new and growing subject, we ask all participants to devote a chapter/paragraph in their presentations to the methodology and development of their research.

The organisers will publish the conference proceedings.
The official language of the symposium will be English. Simultaneous interpretation into Czech/English will be available.

Any questions regarding the conference can be directed to Petra Kaderkova:
kaderkova [at] jamu.cz
The registration form and further documents can be found on http://difa.jamu.cz/english.html
